FBI informant White Boy Rick played by Eminem in BMF

“BMF”(Black Mafia Family) is described by Starz as, “Inspired by the true story of one of the most influential crime families in the country, BMF will delve into the origins of the mafia in Detroit in the late 1980s, its expansion to Atlanta, and how the pursuit of the American dream eventually leads the operation to branch out from national drug distribution to hip-hop in the early 2000s. It has all the hallmarks of a great drama, from the larger-than-life brothers to the deadly, high-stakes world they inhabited.”

It’s the latest project 50 Cent has worked on with the network, which helped solidify him as an actor with his role as Kanan on “Power.” He’s also worked on Power book 2, and his latest drama Power book 3 raising Kanan which is a spin off. 

White Boy Rick will be played by Eminem in 50 Cents forthcoming Starz drama series BMF (Black Mafia Family. The chart topping megastar will portray the depiction of Richard Wershe Jr. aka White Boy Rickv who was a known FBI informant.

“Oh yeah I’m bringing the big dogs out,” 50 Cent recently tweeted “I couldn’t do a show based in Detroit without incorporating the legend eminem.“I’m honoured and appreciative of my good friend Em for supporting my new show ‘BMF,’” said 50Cent in a statement.

BMFis set to premiere on Starz on September 26, and will follow the drug and money laundering organization Black Mafia Family, which was founded in 1989 in Detroit by brothers Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory.

A synopsis by Starz describes the series as “a story about love, kinship and capitalism in the pursuit of the American dream”.

Eminem will portray FBI informant Richard Wershe Jr. – aka White Boy Rick Wershe, was an FBI informant as a teenager in the mid-1980s, having infiltrated a Detroit gang. He was later dumped by the FBI and in 1987, at the age of 17, was arrested for cocaine possession and sentenced to life in prison, though he was paroled and released, last year at the age of 50. In 2017, a documentary on his life titled White Boy was released. The following year, a scripted drama titled White Boy Rick arrived.

Eminem appearance will be relatively brief, with the rapper featuring in one episode of the series, which 50 served as an executive producer for. Outside of music videos, Eminem’s filmography is relatively short, though he made cameo appearances in the 2009 film Funny People and a 2010 episode of Entourage.

Eminem most prominent role was his debut film 8 mile, which contains autobiographical elements from Eminem’s life, follows white rapper B-Rabbit (Eminem) and his attempt to launch a career in hip hop, a genre dominated by African-Americans.8 Mile was a critical and box office success. It opened at No. 1 in the US with $51.3 million grossed in its opening weekend, and would eventually go on to achieve a total gross of $242.9 million worldwide. The film gathered numerous award nominations and wins, including an Academy award for best original song for “Loose yourself” win for Eminem, 8Milewas named one of the best films of 2002 by several publications.
